A few days ago my friend @anthonyfungmusic reached out to me with a very cool idea for a new set of hats. He wanted some medium weight hats that would work well in amplified settings but also had some funky, trashy qualities. He sent me a few conceptual drawings of a top hat with 6 holes near the bell and 6 areas of cratered pocket hammering. And the bottom hat being slightly heavier, with 2 large brass rivets installed.
I tried to execute to his exact specs and I think they came out sounding great! Nice strong chick, quick response, trashy dark complexity with a bit of added sizzle from the bottom-mounted rivets.
Anthony recently finished up touring with his own trio and has spent the last couple weeks playing with @terracemartin. Keep your eyes peeled for him playing his new hats (and other Borba cymbals) with top teir musicians around LA and across the globe! I'm beyond stoked to have great players like him playing my metal.
